Raku Ceramic with Woven Jute Fiber

This vessel exists at the intersection of earth and hand, permanence and decay. The raku-fired ceramic body bears the scars of its making—crackle, smoke, and unpredictable surface shifts that speak to heat, chance, and surrender to process. The form is intentionally grounded and rounded, evoking an ancient utilitarian object rather than a purely decorative one.

The upper portion is wrapped and constricted with woven jute. The jute functions both as a structural element and a metaphorical one—suggesting protection, restraint, or a weathered garment shaped by time. The pierced openings around the rim create a rhythmic transition between clay and fiber, allowing light and air to pass through, blurring the boundary between inside and outside.

Together, the materials reference endurance and quiet survival: a vessel that feels found rather than made, shaped by ritual, landscape and repeated use. The work invites contemplation of what it means to be held, contained, or preserved—while still bearing the marks of exposure to the elements.
