What Remains
Naked Raku
This vessel is formed through naked raku, an alchemical process where clay is stripped of glaze and exposed directly to fire, smoke and sudden transformation. In the absence of surface protection, carbon settles into the body itself, mapping the passage of heat like a sigil—each fracture a record of elemental exchange.
The form holds a quiet duality: containment and release, protection and exposure. Bound by wire yet open to air, the vessel suggests a crucible—an object meant not to decorate, but to witness change. Its surface reads like scorched bone or weathered stone, bearing the residue of combustion and time.
Rooted in chance and surrender, the work resists control. Fire becomes collaborator, not tool. What remains "unfinished" is intentional: a state between matter and meaning, where transformation is still ongoing. This piece exists not as an end result, but as evidence of becoming.
